- 11_29_2009 - Developing an Expectancy for Jesus
Advent begins with the affirmation that the second coming of Jesus Christ as King will be something plainly obvious to all people. It is not something to fear or be deceived about. Instead, Jesus promises the signs are obvious.
- 11_22_2009 - Christ the King
Glimpses of kingship are given in the Bible: Power, Majesty and Control over Creation, and Eternal Reign are just a few. But seldom do we get a glimpse of Jesus as the king leading a rebellion.

- 11_08_2009 - New and Better Relationship with God
Jesus promised a "new covenant." Why? The first covenant given to
Abraham set the stage for the Law of Moses to be given. But that Law
was intended to be a stepping-stone to something greater- to something
that actually secures the promise of eternal life.
- 11_01_09 - All Saints' Day
All Saints' Day reminds us we are only a small part of God's larger Kingdom. We thank God for those who have come before us in the faith and for the way He builds His Kingdom.
- 10_25_09 - The Powerful Life
In covenant relationship, God empowers his children to "rule"-- to act
with humble authority in the name of Jesus Christ. Christians need to
realize the barrier between the powers of heaven and their place on
earth has been removed.
- 10_18_09 - Signs of Covenant
God grants signs of his covenant and kingdom. They begin with promises, include material things around us, and ultimately go to the issue of a transformed heart.
- 10_11_09 - God Keeps His Promises
Close encounters with God seem always to cause fear. Knowing this, God
reassures us through meaningful promises of his love and care. Being identified in relationship with God changes your life, but knowing that God is faithful to keep promises made encourages faith and not fear.
- 10_04_09 - Parish Fall Retreat: Session 3
Becoming a Sabbath-keeping people. Why it matters for a healthy church.
- 10_03_09 - Parish Fall Retreat: Session 2
Understanding the pattern of rest and work from the first pages of the Bible.
- 10_03_09 - Parish Fall Retreat: Session 1
Covenant and Kingdom introduction. God calls us into a unique relationship that defines who we are (covenant) and ways in which we are to respond and live life
(kingdom). Think of this as "being and doing" or "relationship and
responsibility."
- 09_27_2009 - Overcoming Temptation
With humble embrace of God's guidance, we can wisely see temptations
for what they really are: decisions to reject God and avoid real
personal growth. Instead, God grants us grace to say no to temptations
and yes to his guidance.
- 09_20_2009 - Overcoming Self-centeredness
Why do we fight and argue? The Epistle of James goes so far to call it "kill and covet." We are naturally self-centered, yet Jesus calls us to embrace an entirely different disposition and offers help how to do it.
- 09_13_2009 - Overcoming Unbelief
Overcoming unbelief takes courage and risk. We live in tension between what we know we believe and what we doubt.
- 08_30_2009 - How to Win a Spiritual Battle
We are not spiritual superheroes. Fortunately, we don't have to be. We just have to stand firm, pray and use the tools God gives us to defeat deceit, accusation, affliction and temptation.
- 08_23_2009 - Called to Something Greater
God calls us to greater depths of commitment and faith, and beyond imaginary hopes, but to know Jesus as the "headwaters," the source of life that flows to you and guides your life.
- 08_16_2009 - Hard to Accept, but Good for Life
When we resist Jesus' teachings that we must "consume" his body and blood-- to take him into our lives deeply, we fail to experience his life in us and power working through us. This is the same with marriage when two spouses resist mutual submission to each other in acknowledgment that they are different and called to different roles. The resistance causes much pain. But when we accept what is naturally hard, and allow Christ into the deepest part of us, our lives are all the better.
- 08_02_2009 - Challenge to Believe Beyond what You See
God has done a lot to persuade and convince people to embrace a deep belief in His presence with us and in His choice and ability to help us. We are called to the actions of active trust in God. This is more than mere "first-time" faith, but a deepening active response to the call to believe that changes your life.
- 07_26_2009 - Soften Your Heart-Inspire Your Faith
Based upon Mark 6: 45-56, Jesus' walk on water isn't written to remind us of how powerful he is or to what extent he controls by his will the forces of nature. We have the passage to remind us that a hardened heart leads to lack of faith, so profoundly so that his own disciples didn't even recognize Jesus as he approached them. But a soft heart toward Jesus let's your faith rise to great heights of trust.
- 07/19/2009 - Jesus Out of the Box
We want hope. We want joy. We want these things not just now and then, or as a relief from current challenge. But we want joy as the norm of life. Often the way to reclaiming joy isn't by tightly controlling our life circumstances, but by being stretched beyond them to see God do amazing things that open our eyes to wonder-- and joy. Too easily we put Jesus in a box and limit what he can do. Let Jesus out of the Box!
- 07/12/2009 - Faith that Changes Everything
In the gospel of Mark, ch. 6, the climate of faith described blocks the unleashing of miracles or lets it loose. Mark 6 illustrates what happens when people refuse to believe, as well as what happens when Jesus creates a climate of faith for his followers. It takes courageous faith to embrace the new reality and step into it.
- 07/05/2009 - Finding Joy in Life
The people of Israel assemble on a special day. They seek renewed life-- more faithful and more joyful lives. For this to happen, certain things must be clear. They must know Gods will and Word for themnot just to quote it, but to understand it and how the Word of the Lord applies relevantly to their lives.
- 06/28/2009 - The Power of Generosity
From Nehemiah, chapter 5. Generosity changes lives-- often for the giver and certainly for he recipient. Nehemiah first calls his people to account for mistreating their fellow countrymen and to be faithful to God's command to care for one another as the Lord prescribes. Even more, as generosity was extended, the whole community was benefitted.
- 06/21/2009 - Succeed in the Face of Opposition
From Nehemiah, chapter 4. Having overcome the initial impact of loss and having considered how to move forward, the community experiences significant opposition and threats. We are wise to remember that not everyone shares the vision of a healthy and growing church. At even a general level, we will face opposition and we need to know how to respond.
- 06/14/2009 - Rebuilding Community after Difficult Change
From Nehemiah, chapter 1. It takes intentional steps to rebuild a nation, a family or a church. Nehemiah's response to his community's need models for our church today what we must think about, and what we will likely feel, as we try to change for a better tomorrow after experiencing a difficult "season" of loss.
- 06/07/2009 - Trinity Sunday, John 3: 1-17
Clarity of God's actions in Jesus' death on the cross: Gods love for me rather than Gods judgment against me.
- 05/31/2009 - Pentecost Sunday (Whitsunday), Acts 2: 1-11 and John 20: 19-23
The story of the Bible has been about "God for us" and "God with Us." Now the story shifts to "God in Us."
- 05/24/2009 - Shape and Focus of a Follower of Jesus, John 17
In his farewell discourse, Jesus teaches his disciples to the very last moment he can. The challenges to take away: 1) Life is about knowing God and being defined "by" that relationship, and 2) The church exists for the sake of others.
- 05/17/2009 - Relationships Designed to Change Your Life, John 15
Cut a branch off from its stem or root and it dies-- pretty quickly, usually. Jesus uses this illustration to teach about different relationships that are designed to give us wisdom and fullness of life: with him, with each other, with the world around us, and with the Holy Spirit.
- 05/10/2009 - Share What You Believe (Faith Comes from Hearing), Acts ch. 8
It is the "every woman" and "every man" of faith in our local churches who make such a difference in the lives of those around them. Similarly, the task of taking the gospel to the ends of the earth was largely put in the hands of the church membership, not the church leadership.
- 04/26/2009 - Katherine McEnroe
Guest speaker Katherine McEnroe teaches on James 1:2-8.
- 04/19/2009 - Fr. Ed Mcneill
Fr. Ed McNeill shares some practical ways to tell others the good news of Jesus Christ.
- 04/12/2009 - Easter Sunday
- 04_09_2009 - Maundy Thursday

- 04/05/2009 - Palm Sunday
- 03/29/2009 - For the Glory of God
Until the time came, Jesus had been saying, "My time has not yet come." He referred to completing his mission given to him by God the Father. In John chapter 12, Jesus declares a dramatic change of direction. "Now is the time." He takes the opportunity afforded by others to realize that God has created the moment for his response. "The whole world is coming to him," and indeed he came for all the world. We are challenged to live as his disciples with such depth that our foundational purpose for life is about fulfilling God's purposes above and beyond our own desires and intentions.
- 03/22/2009
Our guest speaker, the Rev. Tom McEnroe, is an adjunct professor at Western Seminary and a former pastor at Calvary Church of Los Gatos. In this sermon, he talks about God's mercy.
- 3/15/2009 - Teach Me Your Ways, O God
Courageous love, Transforming Love, Holy Love -- three reflections showing how God works to shape our inspiration to change and follow Him.
- 3/08/09
Scott Wessling takes a look at parallels and differences between Abraham's near-sacrifice of his son Isaac and God's sacrifice of His own son, Jesus Christ.
- 3/01/09 - Reflections
How to pray? Psalm 25 reveals a pattern for reflective prayer and the gift of a safe space to bare one's soul to God and be changed.
- 2/22/09 - The View as You See It
A new "sign" of the Kingdom of God: authority to forgive. From different points of view, we see into the heart of those seeking healing and forgiveness-- and into the heart of Jesus to offer both.
- 2/15/09 - Hope When You've Got None
Hope comes from outside of us. We cannot conjure it up or invent it. When our hope is challenged and even battered, and when our perspective of God and our own sense of health and purpose goes awry, we need to recall who God is, what he has done, and remember that God is our source of hope.
- 2/8/09 - Thy Kingdom Come
Jesus is for others also. This message takes a look at Jesus' ability to remain focused upon his purpose of bringing and demonstrating the power of gospel. Despite the demands from the crowds to remain and serve them, Jesus is not moved by the expectations of others. He moves on to preach the good news of God's love to those in other towns and villages.
- 2/1/09 - Life in the Kingdom
Comments about Mark and Carole's trip to the Anglican Mission Winter Conference precede the message. In this sermon, Mark highlights that Jesus grants to his followers the authority to bring the power of the gospel to others just as he did-- in the form of teaching, healing illnesses and casting out demons of affliction.
- 1/25/09 - Brad Schroer
- 1/18/09 - Do you believe me now?
Jesus calls his disciples into a life of significance-- to be "learners" (learner = disciples) of God's way for life and ultimately to believe that Jesus is the "gate of heaven" through whom all pass to know God.
- 1/11/09 - Moving with the Spirit's Leading
Heaven is not "closed" from earth, but torn open at Jesus' baptism. Jesus submits to a baptism of repentance, and models the way we "turn" to God and thereby find identity, purpose and life path firmly set.
- 1/4/09 - Mystery Revealed
For centuries, God's plan for mankind was kept hidden from obvious conclusion. But finally, through Jesus, it is revealed. How audacious is the hope of God for us that He grants to us confidence and freedom to boldly come into his presence and know that we are welcomed.
