Our Process for Finding a New Rector

 

1. Organize: Rector Search Team (RST) nominated by congregation and appointed by Vestry. RST chooses a chairman. Define process of candidate search. Establish intercessory prayer team.
2. Explore: Review content from Focus Group meetings "What are we looking for in a Priest?” Meet with consultant, Doug Stevens to learn about the process of a pastor search. Meet with Fr. Keith Andrews to learn about AMiA resources. Research job posting options.
3. Create: Assemble Introduction Packet: Review Parish Profile and Job Description from Vestry. Produce additional documents: CKC Demographics, CKC Ministries, CKC Mission and Vision (from Vestry). Define Prospect Profile. Develop a job application and interview questions. Submit packet to Doug Stevens for review.
4. Search: Post opening on AMiA website and additional sites discovered. Send Introduction Packet to Fr. Keith Andrews for distribution to all AMiA bishops. Network for recommendations and referrals. Send Introduction Packet to prospects.
5. Review: Receive and acknowledge each prospect's resume, application, available sermons, videos, and papers. Evaluate and discuss prospects and narrow to a short list.
6. Select: Conduct initial interviews. Visit top prospects at their church. Follow-up on references. Identify top candidate.
7. Nominate: Present top candidate to Vestry. Schedule assessment weekend for interviews with RST and Vestry. After the weekend, Vestry approves the nomination or RST determines next candidate.
8. Offer: Vestry extends offer to the candidate and invites him and his family to visit. Social events planned for candidate's family to interact with parish. Appointments with Realtors, schools, etc. made available to candidate. If candidate agrees to proceed, Vestry presents contract and completes negotiations. If not, RST determines next candidate.
9. Celebrate: CKC holds an installation service and reception. We give thanks to God!
